Dwight Eisenhower is credited with saying: “Plans are useless. Planning is essential.” Eisenhower attributed this quote to an anonymous soldier and a number of people echoed the same such as Winston Churchill.
The transition to agile methodology in software engineering is a good example of what Eisenhower was saying. Agile is dynamic, real time, and takes into account that everything is in a constant state of change.
The only constant is people’s intent to succeed. Leaders need to focus on this. People win battles in real time, not on spreadsheets in board rooms.
